Our critical air filters can be designed to meet airflow ranges from 1 to 5000 SCFM with filter efficiencies ranging from 60% up to 99.995% at 0.3 microns. MERV filters from 11 to 16 including ULPA filters from 99.9995% (U15) up to 99.999995% (U17) can also be designed.
APC also designs and manufacturers custom-size air filters, including heptagon, decagon, hexagon, pentagon, nonagon and triangle shaped filters.
So what exactly can you expect from APC when we design a custom filter for your application?
First, APC works with our clients to thoroughly understand your equipment, application and parameters. We use a very detailed RFQ process to list every filter specification and requirement for all parties to understand the scope of the work. This allows us to minimize product development time to provide an accurate quote.
Our RFQ process determines the best filter media selection suited for your application including raw material selections from plastic, polyurethane, metal, plywood, and MDF. All raw material options are identified then selected for the costing process. Our ISO 9001:2008 quality standards are followed throughout the entire RFQ process. Filter testing is performed to meet the following test standards:
- North America – ASTM, ASHRAE and IEST standards
- Europe & Asia – BS EN1822-05:2009 standards
After your filter requirement and specifications are determined and signed off, we begin our design and engineering process. Our team of CAD technicians prepares drawings of all BOM’s and final assembly drawings for customer sign off. Once approved by our client, a quote is prepared and submitted for Pre-Production and/or Prototype filter submission.
All drawings are produced in SolidWords to produce 3D prints to determine the optimum filter design and flow dynamics. Using 3D printing, rapid prototype models can be made to meet quick timeline requirements. Rapid prototyping is used to meet fast project timelines. The design, engineering and rapid prototype process can be completed as quickly as seven days. The technology we use is very accurate to produce and test prototype filters.
The testing phase is the most important (and difficult) part of creating a custom air filter. We complete lab testing for all critical air filters. Tests include filter leak testing, fractional efficiency testing and air filter certifications. We also provide equipment integrity testing to ensure the filter and equipment work together to meet the required standards.
For HEPA filters, there are further lab tests performed. Appliance and Equipment HEPA integrity testing, dust load testing, and leak detection testing are all completed to ensure the HEPA filters are up to standard. In the case of ULPA filters, we also perform tests to ensure these requirements are met.
In some cases, our client requires field testing. This is a lengthier process that occurs with Pre-Production filters before production. This process takes time but allows the filter and equipment to be tested in real world environments that can’t be duplicated in a laboratory. Depending on the industry application of the filter, field testing can be a requirement before production begins.
Once all testing is completed and the industry standards have been successfully met, production of the air filters can begin. APC Filtration will continue to work the client throughout this process until product is received.
