There is a significant amount of pollutants in homes and workplaces today from dust and bacteria to viruses and VOCs, but this doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of just how polluted is indoor air. Poor indoor air quality has been linked to serious health problems, including respiratory problems, heart disease, and cancer. High quality air filters are the answer to poor air quality in homes, workplaces, and across many different industries today.
As you may or may not have realized, there are many different types of air filters available today. HEPA filters are an increasingly popular choice but standard filters are commonplace. There are, of course, significant differences between the two. But what are these differences? Take a look below.
HEPA Filters Versus Standard Filters
HEPA filters continue to rise in popularity given their ability to trap so many contaminants. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air. In short, it is a highly efficient air filter capable of trapping a minimum of 99.97% of submicron airborne particulate contaminants down to a particle size of 0.3 micron. To get a sense of just how efficient these filters are, they were first developed in 1940 as part of the Manhattan project. They were used to reduce radioactive contaminants as the first atomic bomb was being developed. Since then, HEPA filters are used in many different industries from aerospace to the military and beyond. They are also increasingly being used in homes.
HEPA filters can trap dust, debris, allergens, pet dander, mold, and many other pollutants. HEPA filters are capable of capturing very small particles, which makes them very effective at sanitizing the air. This is why they are not only found in households and other high-risk industries but also in medical industries where a high degree of air sanitization is necessary.
Standard filters range from coarse to medium air filters. These are among the most commonly used air filters in homes and workplaces today. But these filters, while certainly effective, are not as efficient as HEPA filters, and this is the main difference between the two.
If you are looking for a high-performance air filter, HEPA filters are among the best in the market today.
