When you live and work in New York City, you rely on public transportation quite a bit. One of the best ways to get around the city is by public bus. For $2.50 you can go just about anywhere in the five boroughs that comprise New York City (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Staten Island). Recently, APC has been involved in a very exciting and innovative project to make the buses of NYC, cleaner and greener.
One of the world’s largest producers of batteries and fuel cells came to APC to create a custom filter for their battery operated electric powered buses. These unique and innovative vehicles feature a large roof-mounted battery system. One of the biggest problems our client was facing was keeping these units clean, cool, and running at peak performance. Being an incredibly crowded and densely packed city, New York has its share of bugs, dust, and dirt, so APC was the logical choice when it came to creating a filter that would keep out all these environmental pests and allow the battery-operated motor to run efficiently. So how have they worked so far? According the initial rough data, our customer and their client–the City of New York–have been thrilled. They have been able to remotely monitor the buses in real-time, so it has been easy to see how effective APC’s filters have been.
Everyone at APC is proud of how well this project has proceeded, and we are hoping that the program is expanded as more details come in.
